Primamateria - An Explanation
The origins of psychotherapy are ancient. Although the term' psychotherapy' is relatively new, there has been no epoch in human history which has not had its therapeutic system. The search for understanding ourselves is inborn. This thirst for awareness and self knowledge has been called The Heroic Quest. Carl Gustav Jung (1875-1961) discovered the parallel between psychological work and the ancient alchemist's attempts to transform base metal into gold.
In Alchemy this is called the primamateria. The first step in therapy is to find this primamateria in ourselves and to be seen for who we actually are.
I work with my clients to enable this to happen. Regular sessions will provide you with the concentration and space to develop awareness and the inner quietness to listen and see yourself.
In the prologue to his autobiography - Memories, Dreams, Reflections - Jung writes: "In the end the only events in my life worth telling are those when the imperishable world irrupted into this transitory one. That is why I speak chiefly of inner experiences, among which I include my dreams and visions. These form the prima materia of my scientific work. They were the fiery magma out of which the stone that had to be worked was crystallised."
